Virgil E. Finch, 82, Ottawa, Kan., passed away June 12, 2013, at his home.

Graveside funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at Fouts Cemetery, rural Ottawa.

He was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Rantoul, Kan., the son of Ralph Finch and Sylvia (Provorse) Finch.

Virgil was lifelong Franklin County resident, living in Rantoul and Wellsville until moving to Ottawa in 1963.

He worked in the oil fields as a young man, but spent most of his life working for the City of Ottawa on the street department for more than 28 years.

Virgil was united in marriage to Cleda May Mitchell Oct.27, 1949.  She survives of their home.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam Sheffield, Ottawa, Sherry Woodward and her husband, Marty, Ottawa; one brother, Ralph Finch Jr., and his wife, Candy; three grandchildren, Andrea “Andi” Gladson and her husband, Rob, Olathe, Adam Wise, Ottawa, Sara Sheffield-Laymance and her husband, Steven, Lawrence; three great-grandchildren, Petty Officer 3rd Class YN3 Kelsey Fairbanks, San Diego, Marlee Laymance, Lawrence, and Madison Laymance, Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arthur Finch; and two sisters, Lucille Clearwater and Ruby Mendell.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Midland Hopsice through Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa KS 66067.
