Gary Wilson, 61, Ottawa, Kan., passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013.

Graveside services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Family members are scheduled to meet with friends 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary.

Gary was born Sunday, June 24, 1951, in Ottawa, Kan. He was the son of Ralph Owen and Amy May (Hoskinson) Wilson Sr.

He was a lifelong Ottawa resident.

He attended Ottawa High School.

Gary was united in marriage with Sherri Bond Sept. 29, 1972, in Ottawa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Brandi (Wilson) Weidner, Ottawa, Dawn Wilson-Brown and husband, Mitch, Lenexa, Kan., and Veronica Huffman and husband, Shawn, Edgerton, Kan.; seven grandchildren, LaCole, Hunter and Payton Weidner, Noa and Iason Wilson-Brown, Kai and Kloey Huffman; four sisters, Phyllis Gearhart and husband, Nelson, Turpin, Okla., Marylou Baker, Ruby McKay and Judi Collins, all of Ottawa; four brothers, Robert McCurdy and wife, Kay, Ottawa, Eldon McCurdy and wife, Sandy, Ottawa, Ralph Owen Wilson Jr. and wife, Janie, Pomona, and Mike Wilson, Ottawa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Roberta Michaels; and brother, Loren McCurdy.

Gary worked as a custodian for 30 years, primarily in Wellsville and at Garfield Elementary School in Ottawa, retiring in July 2012. Each year, Garfield Elementary presents the Garfield Distinguished Service Award to a fifth-grader in honor of Gary.
