ALPHA DELTA KAPPA

The March 11, 2014, meeting of Sigma Chapter of ADK met at 5:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart School library. JoAnn Duvall was the hostess.

President Therese Payne called the meeting to order. The opening prayer was given by Lila Reekie. Roll call was answered by members sharing their favorite book or author. There were 15 members present.

There was no correspondence.

Virginia Cook made a motion to accept the minutes as written. Bonnie Walz seconded the motion, which passed. Cindy Ayers shared the treasurer’s report. Janet Radcliffe made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented, and JoAnn seconded the motion, which passed.

Cindy shared that the club’s donation to the Literature Festival was more than in past years, so the club received two free dinner tickets instead of one. After discussion, Virginia made a motion to keep the $15 in the treasury, rather than reimbursing each member attending the dinner. Lila seconded the motion, which passed.

No bills were presented.

President Therese shared the state president’s newsletter. Treasurers and membership chairmen need to send status change forms to international and forward copies to the state treasurer and membership chair.

South Central Regional Ways and Means committee need handmade items to be used in the silent auction at the Regional Conference in Tulsa, Okla., which is July 30 - Aug. 1. The money collected will go to the Cooksen Home for Foster Children in Tulsa and is the Regional Altruism Project.

The Kansas ADK State Convention will be May 3 at First Baptist Church in Louisburg. Registration forms are due April 18.

Chapter by-laws are to be submitted each biennium to satisfy IRS requirements. Virginia, Lila and Therese will review and align the club’s by-laws to international and state by-laws early this summer.

Virginia has filed the chapter altruistic report and shared that the club had 116 more volunteer hours than a year ago and an increase in monetary and non-monetary giving.

Bonnie shared that she is retiring from USD 287 West Franklin at the end of this school year. After that announcement, Gerry Coffman made a motion to nominate Bonnie as Sigma Chapter’s Kansas 2014 Woman of Distinction nominee. Liz Smith seconded the motion, which passed.

The club discussed the possibility of the June meeting being at Three Sister’s Inn in Baldwin. There will be more discussion on this at the April meeting.

The club’s next meeting will be 5 p.m. April 8 at the Ottawa City Hall meeting room. Hostesses will be Janet, Gerry and Diane Lang. The program will be the installation of chapter officers for the 2014-2016 biennium and program planning for 2014-2016.

Brenda Wigger made the motion to adjourn the meeting, which was seconded by Virginia. Motion passed.

The meeting was closed with the singing of, “The Lamp of ADK.”
