WELLSVILLE CRESCENT CLUB

4/7/2014

The Wellsville Crescent Club met March 18 at the home of Jean Hopkins. President Midge Casselman opened the meeting with a welcome to all and a special welcome to Norma Booth, one of the club’s lifetime members who has been unable to attend all year.

The program for the day, “What’s happening at the state level of Kansas?” was presented by Carol Cramer. She started with the opening of the legislative session in January and naming some of the topics on the docket. She also named the representatives of the districts. Not willing to have a political debate, Cramer mentioned other happenings around the state like the restoration of the Bowerstock Dam and the building of the Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, the mislanding of a 747 cargo plane at the wrong airport in Wichita, and a KU professor’s proof that Kansas is not the flattest state in the union. (It’s the seventh flattest.) Cramer ended the program with a description of her tour of the newly renovated Kansas Capitol building with newspaper pictures plus her own.
