Ottawa city commissioners will conduct a public forum — with no planned action to follow — at 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 101 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, regarding an existing ordinance that prevents community members from owning pit bulls inside the city limits.

Jason Berve, an Ottawa resident, is trying to get the city commission to lift breed-specific rules in Ottawa that have worked to block pit bulls from the community. Berve, backed by several other people who oppose breed-specific regulations, made his case before commissioners at a city study session in November.

Sara Caylor, Ottawa mayor, said previously the purpose of the public forum would be to hear from residents on both sides of the issue.

City commissioners also are encouraging residents who cannot be in attendance Wednesday night to submit their comments via email. The commissioners’ email addresses can be found on the city’s website at www.ottawaks.gov
