After graduating from the University of Kansas, Dylan Lysen has joined The Herald’s news team.

Lysen began work Monday as a staff writer, covering news and events. His beats are expected to include covering politics, the Central Heights school district and the communities of Richmond, Princeton and Rantoul.

Lysen graduated from the William Allen White School of Journalism at KU with a degree in journalism. While in college, Lysen worked for the student-run newspaper, The University Daily Kansan. He held several positions at the Kansan, most recently as a managing editor during the 2013 fall semester. He also worked as the opinion editor, a copy editor, an arts and entertainment reporter and a popular culture columnist.

Lysen also worked for the Miami County Republic in Paola as an intern reporter during summer 2013. While at the Republic, he covered community events in writing and photography.

Born and raised in the Wichita area, Lysen graduated from Andover Central High School in May 2009. In high school, he participated in athletics as a four-year varsity member of the soccer team.

Lysen said he is excited to join the Herald news team and to learn about the community and its history.
