Standoff leads to arrest in Garnett

GARNETT — A 37-year-old Garnett man was taken into custody about 6 a.m. Wednesday after a brief standoff with authorities ended without incident at a residence in Garnett, according to a Franklin County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Law enforcement officials with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Garnett Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Ottawa Police Department and the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at 210 West 10th Street in Garnett after evidence that a domestic battery and an aggravated assault had taken place Tuesday night at the residence, the news release said.

Law enforcement officials with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Garnett Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Ottawa Police Department and the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at 210 West 10th Street in Garnett after evidence that a domestic battery and an aggravated assault had taken place Tuesday night at the residence, the news release said.

After a brief standoff, Griffin surrendered to KBI agents and Coffey County sheriff’s deputies in the front yard of the residence without incident, the release said.  

Griffin was booked into the Franklin County Detention Center, 305 S. Main St., on suspicion of aggravated assault, domestic battery and criminal possession of a firearm, the release said. Griffin remained in jail Wednesday afternoon awaiting a court appearance.
