An Ottawa native has come back to join Dr. Nathan Kluttz at The Eye Doctors.

Dr. Jayme Brown is looking forward to seeing familiar faces around the office, 316 S. Main St., Ottawa, she said.

“I grew up [in Ottawa] and so did my husband,” Brown said. “We moved back to be close to family and in terms of working there, it’s nice to see familiar faces and people I grew up with.”

Brown received her undergraduate degree from New York University, she said, and studied optometry at Ohio State, graduating in 2010.

She’s no stranger to The Eye Doctors, she said, as she’s worked in the Lawrence and Topeka offices since graduating and still works there, as well as one day a week in the Ottawa location.

“Right now I’m working on Wednesdays [in Ottawa] and then in Topeka and Lawrence still,” she said. “I think as the practice grows there’s the possibility [of being in Ottawa more often]. I would be surprised if I eventually wasn’t [at the Ottawa office] more frequently.”

Brown began working in the Ottawa office just after the first of the year, Kluttz said, as the practice has continued to grow.

“Our practice keeps growing, and we needed some more doctor time, so she’s helping out,” he said. “She’s from here originally, so it’s a good fit I think.”

Though she tends to see a lot of young patients, Brown said, she will be doing primary eye care while at the Ottawa office.

“I tend to see a lot of kids and everything through glaucoma and diabetic eyes diseases,” she said. “I like seeing kids. I love kids, and everything they say, so I do focus on kids but we’re all pretty much full-scope.”
