A blown transformer on King Street caused a temporary power outage Thursday afternoon in downtown Ottawa, city officials said.

Initial calls into the Franklin County Dispatch Center, 305 S. Main St., Ottawa, described lights going out about 2 p.m. on Main Street between Fourth and First streets.

A tripped fire alarm at Courthouse Square Apartments, 235 S. Main St., Ottawa, which occurred about the same time, turned out to be innocuous and was attributed to the outage, according to an Ottawa Fire Department report.

A city utility crew was working in the vicinity and was able to quickly restore the power, Jim Bradley, the city’s utilities director, said.

“The power was out about five minutes,” Bradley said.
