Officials from the City of Ottawa, Franklin County, Franklin County Development Council, Ottawa Main Street Association and others plan to gather Thursday at Neosho County Community College, 900 E. Logan St., Ottawa, for the summit, Seymour, Franklin County Development Council executive director, said.

“[Local entities] have gone through a process to set up individual goals and objectives,” he said. “There’s an overlap in goals and objectives and when we do those things we don’t always stop and take time to figure out what other people are doing and how to work together to reach those shared goals.”

A new industrial park is an example of one of the development council’s goals, Seymour said, and the summit will allow the local entities to take a step back and think about what the community as a whole wants to accomplish in the next few years with a new industrial park.

“It’s a macro-level conversation about setting up a vision for the community and breaking that down into strategic action items,” he said. “We don’t want to make something we put on the shelf and then go, ‘Oh well, wasn’t it fun to go through that process,’ but something we can talk about collectively. Who does what and what the priorities are moving forward and tackle that stuff.”
