BALDWIN CITY — A 53-year-old Wellsville man and his 17-year-old passenger from Lawrence were killed Saturday night in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 56 about six miles east of Baldwin City in Douglas County.

A 2001 4-door Saturn passenger car driven by Rodney L. Strickell, Wellsville, was southbound on Douglas County Road 1061 about 7 p.m. Saturday when it failed to stop at the intersection with U.S. 56 and was struck in the passenger-side door by a 2006 GMC Denali sport utility vehicle that was eastbound on U.S. 56, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report. Both vehicles entered the southeast ditch, with Strickell’s Saturn rolling on its top, and the SUV, driven by Alexander Knoeferl, 43, Overland Park, coming to rest on its wheels facing west, the report said.
