Ottawa sets April 4 kindergarten roundup
By The Herald Staff | 3/5/2014
Ottawa school district parents or guardians with a child who will be 5 by Aug. 31 need to contact the elementary school in their attendance area to make an appointment as soon as possible for the school district’s annual kindergarten round-up April 4, school officials said.
All students who will be eligible for kindergarten next fall must participate in a pre-screening program, according to a school district news release. The benefits of the kindergarten round-up are twofold: Pre-screening provides parents with information they need before their child can enter school, and it provides the teacher with information about the child, which can help in the planning process, the release said.
The round-up is set for April 4 at all district elementary schools. Call the school to make an appointment for the round-up:
• Eugene Field Elementary School, 720 Tremont Ave., (785) 229-8050. Shannon Fanning is principal.
• Garfield Elementary School, 1213 College St., (785) 229-8060. Amy Wormington is principal.
• Lincoln Elementary School, 1102 Milner Road, (785) 229-8080. Josh Robinson is principal.
Depending on the number of students in each area, it might be necessary for a child to attend another elementary school, the release said. Parents with questions can call the Ottawa school district’s central office at (785) 229-8010.
