Ottawa elementary schools plan to conduct their annual kindergarten round-up April 5 to determine about how many kindergartners will be attending classes in the district in the 2013-2014 school year.

Parents or guardians of a child who will enter kindergarten next fall need to call the elementary school in their area to make an appointment for the round-up.

To enter kindergarten next fall, a child must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, according to a district news release.

The school district also encourages parents to gather their children’s health records and to make sure immunizations are current.

A state-certified copy of the child’s birth certificate also will be needed, the release said. The school district has the forms needed to request a copy of a birth certificate from the state for anyone who needs one.

To make an appointment for the round-up, call Eugene Field Elementary School (785) 229-8050, Garfield Elementary School (785) 229-8060 or Lincoln Elementary School (785) 229-8080.
