A tenant of the Courthouse Square Apartments, 235 S. Main St. in downtown Ottawa, was trapped for about 40 minutes Monday morning between the first and second floors after the elevator failed to operate correctly, according to an Ottawa Fire Department report.

Ottawa firefighters shut down the normal operation of the elevator and manually lowered the elevator to the first floor, where the woman could exit, Richard Oglesby, assistant Ottawa fire chief, said. Firefighters received the call 9:17 a.m. and the woman, who was unharmed, exited the elevator about 9:55 a.m., Oglesby said.

A service technician was called to come service the elevator, the report said.
