Smoked Creations needs more room, and the barbecue joint is expected to get it later this month when it moves to the former Driver’s Sports Cafe, 222 E. Logan St., Ottawa.

Jeremy Clevenger, owner, said Smoked Creations, now at 306 S. Main St., Ottawa, plans to move to the Logan Street location and open for business by March 19. The date could be pushed back depending on how long the installation of a computer system takes, he said.

“Our plans are to be open on the 19th, but that’s kind of up in the air,” Clevenger said. “It seems like you take two steps forward and then one step back.”

The main reason for the move, Clevenger said, was to acquire a larger space. The new location will have a banquet facility, which would allow for larger groups of about 100, he said.

The business also will offer an expanded menu, Clevenger said. Although barbecue will still be the main focus, Smoked Creations is expected to feature all-day chicken wings, as well as new sandwiches, a discount for children and a wider beer selection.

Clevenger said he hopes the business will acquire a liquor licence to expand the selection of alcohol even further, but that’s not yet a major focus.

“Eventually we’ll have an actual liquor licence where we can do mixed drinks, but that’s kind of on the back burner right now,” Clevenger said.
