POMONA — A 27-year-old woman who was involved in a possible kidnapping after a hit-and-run March 10 was among three people arrested Friday in connection with a mid-week bank robbery in western Franklin County.

Christel L. Collins, Quenemo, was arrested early Friday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery along with Caleb J. Jeffcoat, 26, Quenemo, who was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery.

After further investigation, Robert Lee Martin, 39, Quenemo, was arrested late Friday afternoon in connection with the robbery on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Dennis Butler, Ottawa police chief, said Friday the unrelated March 10 incident involving Collins was still under investigation and that Jeffcoat and Martin were not thought to be associated with the possible kidnapping and hit-and-run.

Detectives received information early Friday that led to the execution of a search warrant related to the Pomona bank robbery, which culminated in the arrests of Jeffcoat and Collins, the sheriff’s office said.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office could not comment on whether the money stolen during the bank robbery had been recovered, Jeff Richards, Franklin County sheriff said Friday, because the money is considered evidence and the sheriff’s office can’t disclose what, if any, evidence has been recovered.

Officers and detectives with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Ottawa Police Department, Osage County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Franklin County Drug Enforcement Unit assisted with the investigation and apprehension of the suspects, the sheriff’s office said.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 9:12 a.m. Wednesday that Goppert State Service Bank, 118 E. Franklin St., Pomona, had been robbed by an armed man. The suspect was described as about 6-foot tall, wearing a black jacket, black pants, a ski mask and a ball cap.

Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol blocked off Monroe Street to Second Street in Pomona, as well as Madison Street to Second Street, surrounding the bank, because the man was seen running east from behind the business, Rick Geist, Franklin County undersheriff, said Wednesday. The Kansas Highway Patrol also conducted an aerial search using a small plane.

“[The robber] came in and demanded money. He was given an undetermined amount, and he exited the bank,” Geist said.

Collins, Jeffcoat and Martin were being held Friday at the Franklin County Adult Detention Center, 305 S. Main St., Ottawa. No bond had been set for any of the three suspects.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at (785) 229-1200 or the Franklin County Crime Stoppers at (888) 311-TIPS.
