Trail celebration Saturday

Ottawa is joining with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism this weekend to celebrate the Prairie Spirit Trail.

The event is planned 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Old Depot Museum, 135 W. Tecumseh St., Ottawa, to recognize the trail’s 18th birthday, which is Sunday, according to the Friends of the Prairie Spirit Trail group.

The event is planned 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Old Depot Museum, 135 W. Tecumseh St., Ottawa, to recognize the trail’s 18th birthday, which is Sunday, according to the Friends of the Prairie Spirit Trail group.

The Ottawa celebration includes free access to anywhere on the Prairie Spirit Trail State Park, as well as a walk from the Old Depot Museum to Kanza Park, 200 W. 13th St., Ottawa, and back, organizers said. Participants are encouraged to walk or bike the trail and bring their pets along. A free lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m. at the museum.

In addition to booths featuring information on the trail, Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, 3173 K-68, Ottawa, plans to be on site with adoptable animals, organizers said.
