I-35 detour delayed to Friday

By The Herald Staff | 4/1/2013

An ongoing construction project in Johnson County is expected to again disrupt late-night traffic on I-35.

All lanes of northbound I-35 are set to be completely closed 10 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday at Homestead Lane, where a new interchange and water treatment facility are being built to service the coming intermodal rail hub between Edgerton and Gardner. The closure will allow workers to set girders for the eastern portion of the new Homestead Lane bridge, weather permitting.

Motorists are expected to be rerouted to a marked detour. Northbound I-35 traffic will take the K-33 exit for Wellsville, head northbound on K-33 to eastbound U.S. 56, then follow U.S. 56, traveling through Edgerton and Gardner, back to northbound I-35.

The ramp connecting Sunflower Road to northbound I-35 also is expected to be closed 9:30 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday because of the project.
