Another I-35 detour set for Thursday for bridgework near intermodal

By The Herald staff | 4/8/2013

An ongoing construction project in southern Johnson County is set to close and detour southbound I-35 late Thursday.

All lanes of southbound I-35 are set to be completely closed 10 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday at Homestead Lane, where a new interchange and water treatment facility are being built to service the coming intermodal rail hub between Edgerton and Gardner. The closure will allow workers to set girders for the eastern portion of the new Homestead Lane bridge. It is the fourth such detour in recent weeks as crews have worked on the bridge across the north- and southbound lanes of I-35.

Motorists are expected to be rerouted to a marked detour. Southbound I-35 traffic will take the U.S. 56 exit for Gardner and head west on U.S. 56, traveling through Gardner and Edgerton, to southbound K-33. Motorists then will travel south on K-33, through Wellsville to southbound I-35.
