Beer sales OK'd for Ottawa Price Chopper

The new Ottawa Price Chopper will be able to sell beer along with groceries and other products.
Ottawa city commissioners approved a cereal malt beverage license for Queen Enterprises, LLC during their study session Monday night at City Hall, 101 S. Hickory St. Queen Enterprises is the company name for the Queen family, which owns several Price Choppers in the region and will operate the store at 2138 S. Princeton Circle Drive, Ottawa.
Gary Jones, owner of Country Mart, said in mid-March he had sold the store to Price Chopper. The Queen family owns five other Price Chopper stores in Bonner Springs, Paola, Spring Hill and two locations in Overland Park, according to a Price Chopper news release.
Jim and Barbara Queen opened their first grocery store more than 40 years ago, the release said. Today, the business is operated by their children, Barry Queen and wife, Kim, and Jayme Morris and husband, Tommy.
