Band plans weekend concert

GARNETT — An Anderson County band is betting on spring for a weekend performance.

The Garnett Area Community Band has set its annual spring concert for 3 p.m. Sunday in the Anderson County Junior Senior High School auditorium, 1100 W. K-31.

The Garnett Area Community Band has set its annual spring concert for 3 p.m. Sunday in the Anderson County Junior Senior High School auditorium, 1100 W. K-31.

Under the direction of Jeff Russell, the band is expected to open with “National Emblem March” by E.E. Bagley featuring the tuba and low brass instruments. Other arrangements include military band selections, “Irish Tune from County Derry,” Gustav Holst’s “Second Suite in F Major,” “Mozart!” “Yorkshire Ballad” and such Broadway favorites as “Memory” from “Cats”. Local musicians will be joined by musicians from Lawrence, Olathe, Ottawa, Osawatomie, Lane, Mound City, LaCygne, Richmond, Welda and Westphalia.
