Jenkins, who is up for re-election this year, has not yet filed for the House seat, according to the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office. Margie Wakefield, a Lawrence lawyer and Democrat, has announced she is running for the seat, but also has not yet filed for election.

Bob Fluke, Franklin County Republican Central Committee chair, said Jenkins is stopping by Ottawa to visit constituents because she hasn’t been in the area for awhile.

“I think she made a scheduled visit just to come and talk,” Fluke said. “Hopefully a lot of people will be there and ask questions and give comments.”

Fluke hopes the local Republican group will be able to play host to another Jenkins visit this summer at one of the committee’s monthly meetings.
