Nearly half of OHS graduating seniors earn academic honors

Forty-nine Ottawa High School students were recognized for earning Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude and Summa Cum Laude academic honors during Sunday’s commencement at Steve Grogan Stadium, 1120 S. Ash St., Ottawa.

“I saw 49 of the 106 seniors who graduated, basically half of the class, earned [Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude] honors Sunday,” Brian Kane, Ottawa school board member, told Ryan Cobbs, OHS principal, at Monday night’s school board meeting. “That was very impressive.”

The honors are based on cumulative grade point average in addition to fulfilling other academic criteria for all three levels.

Class of 2014 OHS graduates who received the honors were:

Cum laude

Jacob Adams, Kendall Blanco, Zachary Dillard, Meghan Hinman, James Hutchison, Samantha Johnson, Shania Lamm, Aaron Miller, Caleb Parenti, Jordan Peters, Celsie Powell, Hannah Ray, Alex Reed, Ashlyn Rundle, Jackson Schlotterback, Allie Schmoe, Drew Snider, Tabitha Tatman and Brady Wallis.

Magna cum laude

Brock Benorden, Aaron Buehne, Cassidy Coopman, Alexis Dunnivan, Erika Greiner, Monica Jamison, Madison Lancaster, Cory Peoples, Dakota Uht, Dalton Weidl and Brianna Yates.

Summa cum laude

Gabrielle Bowers, Stephanie Brands, Allison Buckley, Kathryn Carswell, Danielle DePriest, Kelsie Ferguson, Hannah Hedges, Allison Howard, Amanda Leadbetter, Kayleigh Love, William Lynch, Bethany Manis, Brianna Pfizenmaier, Meagan Powell, Nathan Roth, Gabriel Skoog, Vincent Sylvester, Bianca Webb and Daniel White.
