Flags to be lowered for Memorial Day

TOPEKA — Flags across Kansas are to be flown at half-staff Monday in honor of Memorial Day.

“Memorial Day is a time for us to honor those who have defended our freedom,” Gov. Sam Brownback said. “Let us take this opportunity to remember those who have fallen and thank the men and women who continue to serve their country in the armed forces today.”

A public Memorial Day observance is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at the Franklin County War Memorial, which sits on the lawn of the Franklin County Courthouse, 315 S. Main St., Ottawa.
