A 3.1-mile run/walk fundraiser Saturday is expected to take participants from Kanza Park to south Ottawa and back on the Prairie Spirit Rail Trail.

Runners and walkers are welcome 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning for the On the Move For Cancer 5k Run/Walk, organizers said.

A registration fee applies, with proceeds benefiting the Franklin County Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises funds to support local cancer patient needs.

“Ninety-six percent of the funds go back to Franklin County cancer patients,” Heidi Kingsolver, Franklin County Cancer Foundation president, said. “The money stays here in the Franklin County Area.”

Interested runners and walkers can find an online registration form at franklincountycancer.org or visit the Franklin County Cancer Foundation office at 215 S. Main St., Ottawa.

About 120 runners and walkers had registered as of Tuesday, Kingsolver said.

The race, now in its eighth year, features a chip timing system.
