City boasts hefty tax figures

Ottawa’s sales tax coffers continued to ring up at a faster rate than 2013 for the fourth straight month in April.

The city’s sales tax collections for April were $198,680, up $11,914 or 6.38 percent above April 2013’s collections of $186,766, according to city figures.

The city had collected $835,128 in sales taxes through the first four months of 2014, up $47,052 or 5.97 percent more than the $788,076 collected through the first four months of 2013.

City officials have said the increased collections are further evidence of local economic recovery.
