The Ottawa school district plans to honor two school board members who are stepping down after Monday night’s meeting.

Marge Stevens, who has served on the board since 2001, and Brandon Jones, who joined the board in 2009, did not seek re-election in April. Their terms will wrap up Monday night — the last regularly scheduled meeting before the start of the new school year July 1.

District officials have planned a reception for Stevens and Jones at 6:45 p.m. before the start of the school board’s 7 p.m. meeting Monday in the board meeting room at the district office, 1404 S. Ash St., Ottawa.

In addition to serving on the board for 12 years, Stevens taught in the Ottawa school district for 27 years and has worked as a substitute teacher for area school districts for more than a decade, according to Herald archives.

Cookies and punch are to be served at the reception, Teresa Powers, school board clerk, said.
