No cause for alarm: Fire simulation at hospital

An emergency preparedness training exercise was underway at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ransom Memorial Hospital, 1301 S. Main St., Ottawa, a hospital official said.
Ottawa fire trucks were on the scene this afternoon at the hospital as firefighters practiced taking rope up hospital stairwells to simulate firehoses, Larry Felix, the hospital’s chief executive officer, said.
The training exercise is part of the hospital’s emergency preparedness plan, Felix said.
“They are also planning to simulate smoke [coming out of the hospital],” Felix said. “This is just a training exercise. There is no [fire] emergency taking place at the hospital.”
