Some residents had reported seeing a bull running loose Tuesday afternoon in the streets of Ottawa. In reality, it was a calf, police said.

“It was reported that a calf was running loose east near ORC [Ottawa Community Recreation/Goppert Building, 705 W. 15th St., Ottawa],” Capt. Adam Weingartner, with the Ottawa Police Department, said in an email.

Children at The Rink, a skating rink at the corner of South Cedar and Second streets, said they spotted the ornery critter in that neighborhood on the city’s east side near the downtown business district.

But the elusive calf’s final destination remained a mystery.

“The officers never located the calf, and the owner hasn’t been identified,” Weingartner said.
