Law enforcement agencies ask for help with fatality wreck probe

LAWRENCE — The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s help in the investigation of a fatality wreck.

Walter Spencer, 67, of Lawrence struck and killed 29-year-old Hayley M. Berrios, Lawrence, at about 8 p.m. Sunday as she rode her bike through the intersection of the K-10 bypass and 27th Street in south Lawrence, according to media reports. Berrios was declared dead at the scene, according to media reports.

Anyone in the area of the wreck at the time or who might have witnessed the incident is encouraged to call Douglas County Sheriff’s detective Jay Armbrister at (785) 330-2828.

“We are especially looking for the operator of a red passenger car that drove through the intersection just prior to the accident,” the sheriff’s office said in a release. “Any and all information is welcome. This is a tragic event that has impacted many lives. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim.”
