Parents of child found wandering streets located

A 2-year-old boy was reunited with his parents after being found wandering the street shortly after 10:30 a.m. today between Fifth and Mulberry streets, Capt. Adam Weingartner, with the Ottawa Police Department, said.
A resident first reported seeing a child walking in the street shortly after 9 a.m., but a search by officers found nothing, Weingartner said late Wednesday morning.
“ ... A second citizen called [later] and found a child in the street at the intersection of Fifth and Mulberry. They held onto the child and called 911,” Weingartner said. “We’ve identified the child and eventually were able to make contact with a parent who was at work.”
Police also located a 6-month-old child in the 500 block of South Sycamore Street. That child apparently was left unattended at the same home from which the 2-year-old was thought to have wandered, Weingartner said.
“The parent who lives at the home was not aware the [2-year-old child] had left the house,” Weingartner said. “We have the child safe, we’ve found the parents and will continue the investigation.”
Further details about the case, including parents’ names and who was supposed to be watching the two children, were not immediately available. For more on this story, See Thursday’s Herald.
