Time for a bus update at Wellsville

By The Herald Staff | 7/31/2013

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville school board voted 5-0 to accept a bid for a used school bus at its Monday meeting. The bus is a 2009 IC Corp. CE300 Conventional and will cost the district $58,000.

The district has 11 busses, one of which is out of commission because it needs repairs, Kevin Kelly, the district’s transportation director, said. Six of the 11 busses have more than 200,000 miles and most are 1994 models, Kelly said. The district’s newest bus is a 2006 model.

“It is about time for an update,” Kelly told the board during the meeting.

The new bus has 51,784 miles on it and has a 71-passenger capacity, compared to the current district busses, which Kelly said hold anywhere from 54 to 59 passengers.

Kelly also reported the record of bus breakdowns is very low, and the district runs seven bus routes.

The district has eight vehicles reserved for activities, including mini-vans and cars, Kelly said.
