Church scorched by early morning fire
By The Herald Staff | 8/4/2014
An early morning fire today heavily damaged a nearly 147-year old church in Ottawa.
Bethany Chapel Baptist Church, 131 S. Poplar St., Ottawa, reportedly was unoccupied when the 5:30 a.m. fire call came in to 911. Firefighters remained on the scene mid-morning.
The Rev. Armogen Walker said the fire came with some irony: The theme of the church's Vacation Bible School last week was reconstruction. The church will rebuild, Walker said.
