An Ottawa native hopes her experience in the retail and service industries and Fortune 500 consumer packaged goods companies during the past 20 years will aid the growth of Ottawa University.

Nancy Wingert has been named vice president and chief marketing officer at OU. She brings experience in advertising, public relations, market research, direct marketing and digital marketing, the university said in a press release.

“Nancy has a servant heart combined with great personal enthusiasm, energy and intellect,” Kevin Eichner, OU president, said. “She rolls up her sleeves and dives deeply into everything she does with great respect for research, analysis, and facts leading to informed intuition and creativity. In her, Ottawa University has found a true marketing expert and a personal gem, and we are delighted that she is joining our accomplished team.”

Wingert’s career history using her marketing acumen included stints at Labelmaster, a Chicago-based manufacturer of regulatory compliance safety products and services; RR Donnelley & Sons, an $11-billion Fortune 500 company and the largest commercial printer in North America; and Archibald Candy Corp., the continent’s largest confectionary retailer, according to OU. She also gained additional brand management experience on Healthy Choice at Conagra Foods and on Chips Deluxe at Keebler Foods.

As vice president and chief marketing officer at OU, Wingert is expected to provide direct support to the Adult, Professional and Online Studies (APOS) division, the residential college, the Office of Advancement, and the President’s Office, overseeing all elements of the university’s marketing budgets to build brand awareness and generate financial results. She also plans to work closely with OU’s Blackboard colleagues to coordinate joint marketing programs, the university said. She also is set to direct the development of marketing strategies and plans for the schools of business, education and arts and sciences, as well as for programs within their respective portfolios.

Wingert has her master’s in management from Purdue University and a bachelor’s degree in retail marketing from Kansas State University.
