Lawmakers to take questions

By The Herald Staff | 8/16/2013

Two legislators representing Franklin County voters are set appear later this month for a Legislative Listening Tour event in Ottawa.

State Rep. Blaine Finch, R-Ottawa, and state Sen. Caryn Tyson, R-Parker, are expected to headline the 10 a.m. Aug. 24 gathering in the commission room at Ottawa City Hall, 101. S. Hickory St. Franklin County’s other legislator, state Rep. Kevin Jones, R-Wellsville is unavailable to attend the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce event.

The Saturday-morning listening tour is expected to serve as a wrap-up to the 2013 legislative session and allow lawmakers to address issues that might be pursued in the 2014 session. The event also comes less than two weeks before legislators are set to return to Topeka for an unexpected Sept. 3-5 special session to tackle revising the state’s “Hard 50” sentencing law.

Lawmakers will take questions from a moderator, as well as from members of the public.
