Police: Gun used in domestic threat

A 31-year-old Ottawa man was taken into custody by Ottawa police officers Friday night after he threatened a woman with a handgun during a domestic dispute, Ottawa police said.

During the domestic dispute, a 22-year-old Ottawa woman and her 1-year-old child were able to flee a residence and call 911 at 8:59 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of East Sixth Street, Capt. Adam Weingartner, with Ottawa Police Department, said.

John Owczarski came out of the residence unarmed as responding police officers arrived on the scene, Weingartner said.

Police officers obtained a search warrant and recovered a weapon from the home, Weingartner said.

Owczarski was arrested on suspicion of assault, felony possession of a firearm and child endangerment, a police report said. He was booked into Franklin County Adult Detention Center, 305 S. Main St., Ottawa, where he remained Monday afternoon awaiting a court appearance.
