Development official tapped as keynote speaker for Friday Forum

A leading development official from the Kansas City area is set to highlight this week’s First Friday Forum in Ottawa.

Jill L. McCarthy, business development vice president for the Kansas City Area Development Council, is set to give the presentation 10 a.m. Friday at Neosho County Community College, 900 E. Logan St., Ottawa.

McCarthy has been focused on business recruitment activities, working with companies and national site location consultants considering the Kansas City area for expansion or relocation, according to her business profile. She has more than 20 years in economic development, starting her career at the local level with the City of Shawnee, before joining the development council in 1998.

The Kansas City Area Development Council — www.thinkKC.com — represents the entire region of the greater Kansas City area, encompassing more than 2 million people in two states, 18 counties and 50-plus communities.

McCarthy, Overland Park, is involved in several professional organizations, as well as the state and regional economic development peer groups.

She and her husband, Sean, have been married 27 years and have one son, Connor, 23, a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, now serving as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

The monthly First Friday Forum series is presented by Arvest Bank, the City of Ottawa and The Ottawa Herald, with rotating sponsorship by Franklin County, the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce, the Franklin County Development Council and the Ottawa Main Street Association.
