A police officer’s attempted traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase early Saturday morning between law enforcement officers and a 22-year-old Pomona man.

An Ottawa patrol officer tried to stop Matthew Levi Lang for speeding on East 15th Street when he refused to pull over and led officers on a pursuit that left the Ottawa city limits, according to a police report.

After officers lost sight of Lang’s vehicle near Labette and Florida roads, a responding Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy located Lang’s vehicle crossing K-68 and Florida Road and resumed the pursuit, the police report said.

After Lang’s vehicle swerved at a deputy’s car stopped on the side of the road, the police report said, Lang was located and arrested in the 900 block of Labette Road about 3:06 a.m. Saturday.

Lang faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, obstruction and criminal damage to property, according to a police report.

Lang is out of Franklin County Jail on bond, awaiting his next court appearance.
