A complex mathematical formula was not required to figure out Bob Fluke was going to be the new chairman of the Franklin County Republican Central Committee.
Committee members elected the Ottawa Middle School math teacher to the post by a unanimous vote Monday night.
Fluke will succeed Jeff Richards, Franklin County sheriff, who submitted his resignation letter in late November after serving as head of the GOP committee for the past 3 1/2 years.
In his letter, Richards said the coming August primary election for Franklin County sheriff would distract him from his chairman duties.
Cathy McClay, vice chair of the committee, said Tuesday morning she thought Fluke was a good fit for the role.
“I think Bob is going to do a great job,” McClay said. “He’s well-known throughout the county, and very committed [to the party]. Personally, I don’t know anybody who doesn’t like Bob.”
