Motorists soon should stop seeing nothing but red at 17th and Main streets in Ottawa.

A malfunctioning traffic signal is expected to be fixed Wednesday, city officials said.

“The traffic signal’s controller cabinet was hit by a vehicle [on about Dec. 7], and we are awaiting parts to repair it,” Andy Haney, the City of Ottawa’s public works director, said Monday afternoon. “We should have it repaired on Wednesday.”

The traffic signal now is flashing red in all four directions, Haney said, turning it into a four-way stop for safety purposes.
