Police Department Arrests

• 11:16 a.m. Friday, 900 block of East Hamblin Street, a 17-year-old Ottawa boy, on suspicion of threatening police officers and refusing to return home.

• 12:18 p.m. Friday, 1200 block of Diamond Head, a 17-year-old Ottawa boy, on a Franklin County Community Corrections pick-up order.

Sheriff’s Department News


• 11:44 a.m. Sunday, 3952 I-35 in Franklin County, a 2009 Mazda 6 driven by Jesse Wamsley Jr., 24, Hannibal, Mo., was traveling south on I-35 near milepost 193 when it struck a coyote in the roadway. No injuries occurred, and damage was estimated at more than $1,000, according to a sheriff’s report.

• 5:46 p.m. Sunday, I-35 in Franklin County, a vehicle driven by Jennifer Jensen, 27, Independence, Mo., was traveling north on I-35 near milepost 191 when a tire blew out and caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, according to a sheriff’s report. No injuries were reported.

• 4:35 p.m. Saturday, 700 block of West Second Street, a 14-year-old Ottawa girl reported she had been raped by a known 19-year-old Ottawa man, according to a police report. Kyle D. Catlin later was arrested by Ottawa police on suspicion of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy, according to a Franklin County Jail booking report.


• 6:58 p.m. Friday, 400 block of Ash Street, a 51-year-old Ottawa woman reported her vehicle was stolen. The case is under investigation.

• 1:25 a.m. Monday, 600 block of South Hickory Street, a 23-year-old Lawrence man reported someone entered his residence and stole items.


• 5:59 p.m. Friday, Taco Bell, 2304 S. Princeton St., a vehicle driven by Alexander Stepp, 16, Pomona, struck a parked vehicle owned by Taylor Besemer, 20, Ottawa. Stepp was cited with failure to report and leaving the scene.

• Saturday: 300 block of East Fourth Street, domestic battery report; 200 block of Cedar Lane, public assist; 200 block of Downey Street, noise complaint; 300 block of Maple Street, noise complaint.

• 5:25 p.m. Friday, West Seventh Street and Eisenhower Avenue, firefighters responded to a motor vehicle wreck.

• Firefighters assisted with 10 medical calls Friday through Sunday.

• Firefighters responded to two medical calls Friday and Saturday.
