Robert Donald Ferguson Sr., 87, North Little Rock, Ark., passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, North Little Rock, Ark., with the Rev. Gerry Claybrook officiating. Interment followed at Rest Hills Memorial Park.

He was born Sept. 10, 1926, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Morris Kelly Ferguson, Ottawa, Kan.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Opal Lois Ferguson; and four children: son, Greg and wife, Teresa, daughter, Cynthia, son, Robert Jr. and wife, Kim, and daughter, Michelle and John Ward; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; surviving siblings: sister, Barbara Greischar, and youngest brother, Jimmie Ferguson and wife, Sue; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Ferguson.

Robert served his country in World War II and the Korean War and exited with an honorable discharge with numerous medals of honor.

He graduated from Kansas State College with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1951.

He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1986 after 30-plus years of service.

Robert will be remembered as a man of many stories and lots of laughter. He found a teaching moment in everything he did.

He loved his wife, his family and life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1653, Topeka KS 66601-1653.
