Geneva Roecker, 94, Richmond, Kan., passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Richmond, Kan.
Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Richmond, Kan. Burial is to follow in the St. John’s Cemetery, Greeley, Kan. Family members plan greet friends 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
She was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Louisburg, Kan., the 10th of 11 children born to Loren and Daisy Belle (Hittle) Kern.
Geneva attended grade school in a one-room school, Centennial School, rural Louisburg. Following school, Geneva lived in Kansas City where she was a live-in housekeeper.
Geneva was united in marriage to Jesse Grant Doudna in 1941. One daughter, Karen, was born to this union.
She then worked for Pratt and Whitney during World War II.
Geneva completed cosmetology school and then owned and operated a beauty shop in Paola, Kan. She then worked at Hercules Powder Plant in Desoto, Kan. Geneva then went to work at the Osawatomie State Hospital, where she worked as a beautician.
Jesse preceded her in death in 1970.
Geneva was united in marriage to Everett Roecker May 14, 1977, in Richmond, Kan.
She retired from the state hospital after 20 years.
In her retirement, Geneva made a number of quilts that she gave to family. Geneva took a lot of pride in her quilts. The work was all done by hand and she was meticulous in her work. Her only quilt entered in the Richmond Fair earned her a blue ribbon for her work.
Geneva loved to fish. The family spent many days fishing on the Lake of the Ozarks and she enjoyed them all.
She will be especially missed for her fried chicken and apple pie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jesse; her second husband, Everett Roecker, June 28, 2009; three sisters; seven brothers; grandson, Steve Fisher; and great-grandson, James Fisher.
Survivors include her children, Karen Geiger and husband, Alfred, Ottawa, Kan.; Janis Modlin, Ottawa, Kan., Barb Roecker, Princeton, Kan., Elaine Burchett and husband, Larry, Branson, Mo., Teresa Hermreck and husband, Mike, Williamsburg, Kan., Larry Roecker, Williamsburg, Kan., and Susie Roecker, Williamsburg, Kan.; 16 grandchildren, including Randy and Doug Geiger; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
