Velma Hale, 88, passed away April 19, 2013, at her residence in Ottawa, Kan.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Crosspointe Community Church, Ottawa. The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the church.

Velma Hale, 88, passed away April 19, 2013, at her residence in Ottawa, Kan.

She was born June 2, 1924, in Seward, Kan., the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Galbraith) Muntz.

She graduated from high school in Birch Tree, Mo., and attained a teaching certificate after high school.

She was then a school teacher in Birch Tree for one year before moving to Denver, Colo., and teaching there for two years. She then moved to the Kansas City area began working at Hallmark. Velma and her husband also co-owned and operated Amoco Transmission in Kansas City, Mo., and a Midas Muffler Shop on State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan.

Velma was a member of the Crosspointe Community Church, Ottawa, and a former member of Victoria Tabernacle of Kansas City, Kan. While at Crosspointe, Velma volunteered her services to cook lunches for the Apple Garden daycare. At Victoria Tabernacle, she was a weekday church school director.

She was united in marriage to Roy J. Hale Dec. 30, 1945, in Kansas City, Kan. They shared more than 59 years of marriage. Roy preceded her in death May 21, 2005.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Loyd Muntz and Melvin Muntz; and one sister, Joyce Thompson.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Hale, Ottawa; sister, Doyn Jacobs, Worth, Mo.; grandson, Rob Hale and his wife, Kristi, Ottawa; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Crosspointe Community Church through Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14 Ottawa KS 66067.
