RICHARD TURNER

Richard Turner, 96, Ottawa, passed away April 22, 2013, at Ottawa Retirement Village.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at First Christian Church, Ottawa. Mr. Turner’s family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa.

He was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Ottawa, Kan., the son of James Emery Turner and Dottie May (Gould) Turner.

He was a lifelong Franklin County resident.

Richard was well known by many as a Master Craftsman of Wood, spending a majority of his life as a self-employed woodworker and cabinet maker. He also owned and operated Turner’s Antique and Tole Shop with his wife for many years.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Ottawa, where he also served for a time as Deacon. He also was a former member of the Church of the Brethren, Ottawa.

Richard was united in marriage with Marian Schaal Nov. 5, 1939, at the First Christian Church, Ottawa. They shared more than 64 years of marriage until Marian’s death April 23, 2004.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Orvis, Louis, Ralph and Robert; and one sister, Helen West.

Survivors include a son, Don Turner and his wife, Linda, Ottawa; a daughter, Margaret Turner, Lawrence; a granddaughter, Jamie Turner, Osawatomie; two great-grandchildren, Kinleigh Johnson and R.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Hospice or First Christian Church through Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
