JOHN FREDERICK WOJICK

5/9/2014

John Frederick Wojick, 75, Ottawa, Kansas, died May 3, 2014, at his home.

Funeral services are planned for 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Family members plan to have a gathering for friends following the service.

He was born March 10, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Stanley and Emilcara (Cipriani) Wojick.

John grew up in Burlington, New Jersey, and graduated from Burlington High School in 1957.

John worked several jobs before completing trade school and becoming a welder.

As a welder, he worked for the U.S. Department of Defense, in particular the U.S. Navy. He was very grateful and proud to have worked on the U.S.S. Missouri to commission her when brought out of retirement twice and decommissioned twice. The last time was to get her ready for the museum where she remains today at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He also was honored to have worked on the U.S.S. New Jersey, the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier, other ships, atomic submarines, communication ships, and cruisers. You could name a type of ship, and John welded on them.  After retiring from the shipyard, John worked as a Pinkerton Security Guard for Mitsubishi for three years.

John was united in marriage to Martha “Marty” Nave March 23, 1974, in La Palma, California. She survives of the home. They were very blessed in their marriage. They traveled to many places, including the Caribbean, Hawaii, England, Scotland, Ireland, Paris, Guam, Saipan, and many states on the Mainland.

John was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and also the Franklin County Heritage Homes group.

John, a devout family man, was very proud of his immediate family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as his Polish and Italian heritage. His love for kids was on display on trips to the grocery store when he would “entertain” children in the aisles.

Survivors also include two daughters, Donna Louise Zobie, Bishop, California, and Karen Marie Olsen, Riverside, California; two step-daughters, Christina Noel Purvis, Moreno Valley, California, and Kimberly Ann Morey, Perris, California; step-son, Joseph Fredric Burden, Moreno Valley, California; adopted daughter, Suzanne Barker, La Mirada, California; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Wojick; and son, Jeffrey Wojick.
