Wanda “Jo” Perney, 84, Ottawa, Kan., died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Ottawa Retirement Village, Ottawa.

Funeral Services are planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a private family burial. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Perney 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment is set for Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kan.

She was born Friday, June 22, 1928, in Memphis, Texas, the daughter of Clarence Edgar and Julia (Darwin) LeCompte.

Jo was raised in various towns in Texas, lived 20 years in Belton, Texas, 11 years in Topeka, Kan., 20 years in Quenemo, Kan., and in Ottawa, Kan., from 1996 to 2013.

She attended schools in Belton, Texas.

Jo was a homemaker, also working from 1973 until 1977 as a seamstress at H.D. Lee in Ottawa and for the Marais Des Cygnes Valley school district in Melvern, Kan., from 1979 until 1993.

She was a longtime member of the 15th Street Church of Christ, Ottawa.

Wanda was united in marriage with John W. Perney Wednesday, March 10, 1948, in Belton, Texas. He preceded her in death June 16, 1996.

Survivors include her son, John C. Perney and wife, Donna, Grandview, Mo.; granddaughter, Stacey Fraughton and husband, John, Colorado Springs, Colo.; great-grandson, Nathan Davis, Colorado Springs; two great-granddaughters, Sarah Davis and Kimberly Fraughton, both of Colorado Springs; brother-in-law, Jerry Perney and wife, Gay, Paso Robles, Calif.; and nephews and nieces from Texas, Colorado, California and Kansas.

Wanda also was preceded in death by her son, Vern Perney; parents; and two sisters, Lois Levy and Charlene Easley.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the 15th Street Church of Christ through Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
