Wayne R. Swank, 77, Pomona, Kan., died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Baldwin City, Kan.

Graveside services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kan. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Swank 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at at Dengel & Son Mortuary.

Wayne was born Tuesday, June 2, 1936, in Ottawa, Kan., the son of Roy and Helen (Sassaman) Swank. They preceded him in death.

He was a lifelong Franklin County resident.

He attended Elm Grove and Fouts Rural Schools and Ottawa High School.

Wayne worked for Farmland Industries Nitrogen Plant for more than 32 years in Lawrence. During his employment, he was a boiler operator for 21 years, retiring June 30, 1994.

From April 17, 1956, to April 16, 1959, Wayne served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Specialist 4.

Wayne was united in marriage to Virginia Bell April 2, 1972, in Williamsburg, Kan. She preceded him in death Aug. 15, 1993.

He was united in marriage to Arlene Berry-Talbott April 18, 2001, in Williamsburg. She preceded him in death Jan. 31, 2005.

Survivors include two brothers, Robert Swank and wife, Rose, Ottawa, and Elbert Swank, Williamsburg; and sister, Alice Huyett and husband, Lloyd, Topeka.
