LAURA R. COX
Laura R. Cox, 81, rural Richmond, died June 27, 2013, at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 29, at the Richmond United Methodist Church. The Rev. Butch Ritter led the service and music was by Cathy Parsons.
Laura was born Nov. 22, 1931, in Coffeyville, Kan., the daughter of Robert and Nina (Tate) Sailor.
Following her graduation from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kan., she was employed in the Kansas City area and lived in various places.
Laura moved to Garnett in 1962, where she lived for a few years before her Dec. 11, 1964, marriage to Larry Cox.
She was employed by the Graham School, Anderson Motor Co. and Garnett Savings and Loan.
A member of the Richmond United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, she held offices in both groups.
She was a member of Four Winds Chapter of D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution) and served as Regent and Treasurer.
Laura and Larry were foster parents to three boys through the years.
She enjoyed quilting, traveling and collecting Barbie dolls, angels and cookbooks.
Survivors include her husband, Larry; daughters, Rhonda Meyer and husband, Norman, Monticello, Iowa, and Diann Hough and husband, Dr. John Hough, Paola; and three grandchildren.
Although she endured muscular dystrophy all her life, Laura didn’t let it slow her down any more than it had to. Her body was given to medical research, as she wished.
