ROBERT C. BROOKSHER
Robert Brooksher, 82, formerly of Ottawa, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at home in Wichita, Kan.
A time of fellowship is planned for 3 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the home of his daughter, Barbara Cummings, 14702 W. 74th St., Shawnee, Kan. Brooksher is to be interned at a private ceremony at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa, Kan.
He was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Osage City, Kan., to Wayne Brooksher and Clara (Orlowski) Brooksher.
He grew up in Edgerton, Kan., graduating from Edgerton High School in 1948.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Faye Boggs Dec. 9, 1951, in Edgerton.
He attended Emporia State University for a time before joining the U.S. Navy. During his 22 years of service, he was stationed in Olathe, Kan., St. Joseph, Mo., San Diego, Calif., Chicago, Ill., and Brooklyn, N.Y.
After retiring from the Navy in 1970, he moved with his family to Ottawa, where he served as manager of Ottawa Cable TV for more than 20 years, and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Bob loved music, especially Big Band recordings from the swing era. He enjoyed camping and fishing, and working on his home. In addition to living in Ottawa, Bob and Dorothy owned a farm near Pomona, which Bob enjoyed tending.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1995, and remarried to Lois (Van Loenen) Brooksher, who was originally from Ottawa, in 1996. They resided in Noel, Mo., Pharr, Texas, and Wichita.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; four children, Barbara Cummings, Shawnee, Kan., Thomas Brooksher, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Bruce Brooksher, Paradise, Kan., and Judy Fitch, Linn Valley, Kan.; sister, Margaret Brewer, Olathe, Kan.; brother-in-law, Bill Goodson, Kansas City, Mo.; sister-in-law, Peggy Smith, Louisburg, Kan.; brother-in-law, Harold Boggs, Morrowville, Kan.; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Boggs, Morrowville, Kan.; sister-in-law, Sandie Elrod, Wellsville, Kan.; and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Bob also was preceded in death by his son, James Brooksher; an unnamed daughter; his parents, Wayne and Clara Brooksher; brother, Delbert Brooksher; and brother, Charles Brooksher; in addition to his wife, Dorothy.
